ArteFill May Fill Wrinkles - Forever

A new wrinkle filler that made quite a buzz when it hit the Bay Area is really taking off.
ArteFill is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable injectable dermal filler for the correction of those pesky "smile line" wrinkles. Dermatologists, plastic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons in the Bay Area have integrated ArteFill into their practices – and are among many doctors nation-wide to do so – resulting in around 7,000 treatments. It no doubt helps that the Company launched a new advertising campaign with consumer-friendly print ads in San Francisco, in conjunction with the company's consumer-based website, www.artefill.com/consumer, which includes testimonials from clinical trial patients, a before and after photo gallery, and a consumer video educating patients on the use of ArteFill. The difference between ArteFill and other fillers like Juvederm and Resylane – and one of the factors explaining why Bay Area residents no doubt like it so much – is that ArteFill claims to erase certain lines permanently. Other fillers need touch-ups and re-treatments from time to time. Bay Area plastic surgeon Dr. R. Laurence Berkowitz, says, "It's the first one that we can say is probably going to be permanent - cannot be taken up the body or removed by the body." Berkowitz was one of the first Bay Area doctors trained to use the filler, made of tiny non-absorbable plastic micro spheres in a collagen gel. Dr. Berkowitz explains how it works: "It's absorbed over a period of weeks and then it's replaced with your own body's collagen around these micro spheres." The collagen eventually disappears leaving the permanent micro spheres behind to fill in the creases. The product hasn't been around that long and it's too early to tell for sure if the affects will truly stand the test of time, but if the show of support for ArteFill in the Bay Area is any indication, this product may be giving the others a run for their money!
But, as Dr. Berkowitz points out, when it comes to filling creases permanently, no other product comes close. "Properly injected for the right indications, it will prove itself to be a very safe and useful product."
